Maui Portuguese Cultural Club Heritage & Community
The Maui Portuguese Cultural Club preserves and celebrates the rich heritage of ancestors from Madeira and the Azores who helped shape Hawaii’s cultural landscape. Through events, education, and community programs, we keep traditions alive for future generations.
Our club brings people together through annual festas, cultural workshops, and shared experiences that honor Portuguese history, music, food, and faith. From community gatherings to heritage education, we create meaningful connections rooted in tradition.
With a strong focus on community support, we offer scholarships and programs that uplift local families while promoting cultural awareness across Maui.
Portuguese Heritage in Maui
To understand our present, we honor the journey of our Portuguese ancestors from Madeira and the Azores. Their traditions, faith, and way of life continue to inspire our community today.
Through shared experiences and cultural exploration, members of the Maui Portuguese Cultural Club reconnect with their roots and preserve traditions that might otherwise be lost across generations.

A few of the Maui Portuguese Cultural Club members seized the opportunity to travel together on a tour of the Azores Islands, Portugal. The group visited four of the nine islands: Faial, Pico, Terceira and Sao Miguel. Here they stand in front of a chapel of the Holy Spirit on the island of Terceira.
Most of our Portuguese ancestors on Maui came from Madeira and the Azores Islands which were remote outposts of a maritime empire. Portuguese sailing ships would stop at these islands to replenish supplies before journeying onward across the Atlantic Ocean and around continents. Madeira and Porto Santo are islands off of Africa.
